Cross Cultural Community Services (CCCS) is honored to launch a vibrant new collaboration with the Equality Community Center—an ongoing mental health and wellness groups series created with and for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ community members across Greater Portland. These free, in-person gatherings are rooted in cultural affirmation, creative expression, and collective care. Our goal is simple but powerful: to build healing-centered spaces where individuals can recharge, reconnect, and rediscover joy.
Upcoming Event: Theater Workshop for Wellness
Date: Tuesday, May 14
Time: 3:30–4:30 PM
Location: Equality Community Center, 15 Casco Street, Portland
We understand that traditional models of wellness often leave out the voices, experiences, and cultural strengths of Black, Indigenous, People of Color and LGBTQ+ individuals. CCCS believes wellness must be community-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive. This series is designed to reflect and uplift the lived experiences of those we serve through accessible, joyful, and affirming opportunities to grow, connect, and be well together.
This one-hour, in-person workshop is more than a creative outlet—it’s an invitation to breathe, laugh, move, and heal together in a space of safety and celebration. Designed specifically for Queer and BIPOC individuals, the workshop is accessible to all—no prior theater experience required. Whether new to expressive arts or a seasoned performer, this space is for you.
Participants will be guided through gentle theater-based exercises, improvisation, storytelling, and movement practices. These methods help deepen self-awareness, foster interpersonal connection, and unlock the power of imagination and self-expression. Through this embodied experience, we explore wellness not as a destination, but as a communal and ongoing process.
Facilitated by artists and healers attuned to our community's intersectional needs, this session is a chance to show up fully—as your whole, authentic self—and be met with care, respect, and belonging.
