Cross Cultural Community Services Accessibility Statement

Our Commitment to Accessibility

Cross Cultural Community Services (CCCS) is committed to making our website accessible to everyone. We want all visitors who use our site to feel welcome and find the experience rewarding, regardless of ability. As a Maine-based non-profit, we believe that inclusive web design is essential to serving our diverse community. We are continually working to improve the user experience and apply relevant accessibility standards in everything we do.

Accessible Content on Our Website

Our website offers a diverse range of content, including informational pages, news updates, images, webinar recordings, videos, and interactive tools. We have taken steps to ensure each of these elements is accessible to all users.

For example:

  • Text Content (Press Releases & News): All of our written content, such as press releases, news articles, and service information, is presented in clear, structured text. We use proper headings, lists, and plain language so that the content is easy to follow and compatible with screen readers. This helps users navigate our pages and understand information with ease.

  • Images: All images on our site include descriptive alternative text (alt text) that conveys their purpose or content. This means that visitors using screen readers or those who are visually impaired will still be able to understand what each image represents. We carefully select images and describe them to ensure that no one misses essential context or information.

  • Videos & Webinars: For any videos or recorded webinars we share, we provide captions and/or transcripts. Captions make the audio content accessible to people who are deaf or hard of hearing, and transcripts offer a text alternative for those who prefer reading or use assistive devices. We strive to ensure that multimedia content delivers the same information to all users.

  • Interactive Features: All interactive elements on our site – such as navigation menus, forms, and other widgets – are designed to be usable with a keyboard alone and with assistive technology. We add clear labels and instructions to interactive controls, ensuring that focus indicators are visible (so keyboard users can easily see where they are on the page). These practices help users with motor disabilities or those who don’t use a mouse to interact with our site fully.

  • Design & Contrast: We have selected fonts and color combinations that meet accessibility guidelines for contrast, ensuring easy readability. Our text and background colors are tested to ensure sufficient contrast, making the content readable for visitors with low vision or color blindness. We avoid using tiny text and ensure that critical information is conveyed clearly, so that everyone can perceive our content comfortably.

Standards and Compliance

Our website is built on the Wix platform, which provides robust accessibility features by default. We followed Wix’s accessibility guidelines throughout the design process. These guidelines align with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 – a widely accepted international standard for web accessibility – as well as other key accessibility regulations and best practices (including laws such as the Americans with Disabilities Act). By leveraging Wix’s built-in features, we aim to meet or exceed the requirements of WCAG 2.1 at the Level AA conformance on all our pages. In practical terms, this means our site’s content should be perceivable, operable, and understandable for users with a wide range of disabilities.

To ensure compliance, we utilized Wix’s Accessibility Wizard tool during development. This tool scanned our site for common accessibility issues and helped us fix them. For instance, it alerted us to any missing alt text on images, insufficient color contrast, or incorrect heading structure, and we addressed those issues promptly. We continue to use this tool (and other checks) whenever we update the site, to maintain a high standard of accessibility over time. Our commitment is an ongoing effort – as web standards evolve or new content is added, we will keep refining our site’s accessibility.
